The annual 8th grade dinner will be hosted prior to the Christmas concert on December 19th from 4:30-6:15 PM! We hope to see you there and warmly welcome your support to help fund their 8th grade end of the year trip!
We voted this morning on if the kiddos liked the chocolate chip panettone that is a traditional sweet bread from Italy! It was pretty well liked!
We learned yesterday about the Italian legend of Old Befana. She fills socks with treats for good children and with coal for bad children in Italy! The kids did a great job making their Befana socks!
Day 5 was all about German traditions! We learned that there is a German tradition where a pickle ornament is hidden on the Christmas tree, so we created trees with a hidden pickle ornament! We gathered at the carpet and worked together to find each other's pickle ornaments!
Christmas Spirit Weeks continue this week and next!
Our craft for Germany was decorating gingerbread men! I loved seeing all their creativity!
Today in STEM we competed to see who could build the tallest Christmas tree. Materials given were paper and tape.
Another perk to Christmas Around the World is using map skills!
Day 3 with Kwanzaa also brought weaving mkekas (mats)! Great job using all that creativity!
Day 3 of Christmas Around the World was all about Kwanzaa! We learned that ears of corn represented the number of kids in the family. Well, in our class family we have 8! YUM!
Day 4 is all about Hanukkah! We learned how to play dreidel with chocolate gelt! They had a good time!
We had a very special guest on Monday! Mr. Neisler came to kick off December (and Christmas Around the World for 1st and 2nd grade) by reading "The Night Before Christmas" to the whole school! Thank you, Mr. Neisler! We miss you and hope you are enjoying retirement!
Last week, we were able to make our fall trees for what we are thankful for! The kids did a great job and they turned out so cute!
The addition of the Lego table has been a hit! Trying to keep them focused on reading and math when they're plotting & planning what to add and what to build next during future play times has been difficult this week. However, the learning that is happening because of the table is just as valuable to their education and futures!
We kicked off Day 1 of Christmas Around the World with learning about American traditions! We decorated cookies to have with milk, just like what we leave out for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve night!
Day 2 of Christmas Around the World is all about Mexico! The kiddos made poinsettia ornaments because of the Christmas flower's significance to Mexican culture. Great job, kiddos!
