January reading incentive fun for the elementary kiddos!

Flash card Friday started today to help with math fact fluency! Everyone played an important role!

Kindergarten is having fun with some Groundhog Day activities.

New Holland-Middletown Elementary students will be participating in State Senator Sally Turner's Valentines for Seniors project. Students will be working on valentines next week, but parents can feel free to send any cards made at home as well! We look forward to seeing what students make for the seniors in our community! All completed cards may be delivered to Ms. Pitts in the elementary.

I am sending our weekly email out a day early this week because there is a change to the schedule next Monday so I wanted to give plenty of notice. First of all, attached is the February Calendar. Please note, the Metcalf game is rescheduled to February 11. The other big change is to Monday. WLB boys are playing in a sectional basketball game on Monday at 6:30. The 7th grade WLB girls wanted to go support their team so we are going to bump up game times a little bit. The 7th grade game will be at 5:00 and the 8th grade game will follow.
Monday, February 3- Game vs WLB at CCS. 7th grade game at 5:00 and 8th grade game will follow. No RED game.
Tuesday, February 4- Game @ CEL. RED game at 4:00, 7th grade game at 5:00 and 8th grade game will follow.
Wednesday, February 5- practice 3:30-5:00
Thursday, February 6- Game vs. Normal Calvary at CCS. 7th grade game at 6:00 and 8th grade game will follow. No RED game. We will also have 8th grade recognition on this night. All 8th graders and their parents will be announced before the 8th grade game.
Friday, February 7- practice 3:30-5:00
Saturday, February 8- 6th Grade Edinburg Tournament
In 3rd grade STEM today we celebrated 101th day of school by building dog house. The idea comes from the Disney movie 101 Dalmatians.

Some times math is challenging and we need a break. 5 minute brain breaks help refocus our minds and energy.

There will be NO wrestling practice today, Friday January 31st.
100 days smarter in 3rd grade!

Congratulations to all of our 1st Semester Honors Students!

The 5th/6th grade boys' basketball season will start next week on Thursday, February 6th at Zion Mt. Pulaski. All games will be played at 6:00 unless otherwise noted on the schedule. Just like the regular season, unless it is a tournament, home games wear white and away games wear red. I’m assuming Coach Koester will want the players at the game about 30 minutes before. Thank you all for being so flexible.
Schedule: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11QnGOADOVxa04DuzXpLkjN_xTd-Hfxn8QcbY7jrSRoc/edit?usp=sharing
The 5th & 6th grade will practice on Sunday from 4:00-5:30 and on Tuesday from 5:00-6:30. More practices will be added as necessary throughout the month of February.
1st and 2nd grade, young and old, celebrated the 100th day of school today! Congratulations, kiddos! You are 100 days smarter!

100th Day activities in full swing: crown & glasses, build with 100 cubes, 100 shapes, 100 popsicle sticks, count to 100 by 10 cut & paste & paint dabs, make a necklace with 100 cheerios, write when I am 100 years old...
Apparently they will all be working at Walmart when they are 100.😂

Just as a reminder.
There will be a parent meeting for any student interested in bowling on Monday, February 3 at 5:30 in the Carroll Catholic School cafeteria. Bowling is open to boys and girls in grades 5-8 from CCS, ZLS, ZMP, and NHM and grades 6-8 at LJHS. Please note, bowling practices will be held at Logan Lanes and meets will be held at Logan Lanes and other places throughout Illinois. There could be some travel involved to attend meets. Carroll Catholic School does not provide transportation to practices or meets. All participants will be responsible for providing their own equipment (bowling ball and shoes) and purchasing their own shirts through CCS. If you are unable to attend the meeting or have any other questions, please contact Michelle Fuiten at CCS.
The practices will be held around 3:30 each practice day.
Tuesday, January 28- Game vs. St. Mary’s 6:00 at Zion (no RED game) There will also be 8th grade recognition before the 8th grade game. Parents and players should meet in the cafeteria towards the end of the 7th grade game.
Wednesday, January 29- Game at Springfield Christ the King 6:00 (no RED game)
Thursday, January 30- Game at Illini Central. There is a RED game that will start at 5:00. The 7th grade game will start at 6:00 with the 8th grade game following. This game will be at the brand new Cougar Center. Address is 208 Northwest Avenue, and the new gym is directly behind the HS/MS. Entrance to the new gym will say "Illini Central Grade School" in big lighted letters, but that is the correct spot. No more driving to Easton!
Friday, January 31- practice 3:30-5:00
Saturday, February 1- No Practice (8th grade boys basketball regional at 10:00 at Epiphany)
Scholastic Bowl practice will officially begin tomorrow, Tuesday, January 28th directly after school until 4 pm. All interested students should plan on attending. Practices will be after school Monday-Thursday on non-meet dates.
Check out the upcoming cheer clinic!

***Please note the date change due to extreme weather and school being closed last Tuesday.***
NHM invites all students to dress as if they are 100 years old on Wednesday, January 29th!

Another change to the LCHS 8th grade recognition. It will now take place on Thursday, February 6. I know this is NOT ideal being 8th grade night for volleyball and First Reconciliation night, but it is not required to attend. Unfortunately, finding a date that works for everyone is virtually impossible! Thank you for your flexibility.
