Today in STEM we competed to see who could build the tallest Christmas tree. Materials given were paper and tape.

Another perk to Christmas Around the World is using map skills!
Day 4 is all about Hanukkah! We learned how to play dreidel with chocolate gelt! They had a good time!
Day 3 of Christmas Around the World was all about Kwanzaa! We learned that ears of corn represented the number of kids in the family. Well, in our class family we have 8! YUM!
Day 3 with Kwanzaa also brought weaving mkekas (mats)! Great job using all that creativity!
We had a very special guest on Monday! Mr. Neisler came to kick off December (and Christmas Around the World for 1st and 2nd grade) by reading "The Night Before Christmas" to the whole school! Thank you, Mr. Neisler! We miss you and hope you are enjoying retirement!
Last week, we were able to make our fall trees for what we are thankful for! The kids did a great job and they turned out so cute!
The addition of the Lego table has been a hit! Trying to keep them focused on reading and math when they're plotting & planning what to add and what to build next during future play times has been difficult this week. However, the learning that is happening because of the table is just as valuable to their education and futures!

We kicked off Day 1 of Christmas Around the World with learning about American traditions! We decorated cookies to have with milk, just like what we leave out for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve night!
Day 2 of Christmas Around the World is all about Mexico! The kiddos made poinsettia ornaments because of the Christmas flower's significance to Mexican culture. Great job, kiddos!
Message from Mrs. Fuiten at CCS for Volleyball and Basketball
Please be mindful, girls volleyball has started and their practices end at 5:00. Furthermore, Coach Fitzpatrick will not be at practice tonight until right at 5:00. Please do not bring the boys any earlier than 5 to practice tonight. Thank you
We are ready for Christmas Around the World!! Look at those smiles!

Snow fun!

Just a few of announcements to think about in the upcoming weeks for sports:
1. All sports calendars for Wrestling, Volleyball, and Boys' Basketball have been updated for practices, games, and meets. If you see any mistakes please let me know so I can fix them in the district's calendar.
2. With Volleyball and Wrestling starting up, all athletes will need to make sure they have an updated physical on file. Physicals expire every 395 days. If your athlete had one for last year they will need a new one that is valid before they can practice. If you have any questions on expiration dates on physicals you can email me and I will be sure to find that information for you.
3. All athletes must be in good standing academically. I will be in constant contact with coaches from the different coop school on student/athletes who are ineligible.
My email address for the school is ksmith@nhm88.com
3rd grade brought the Macys day parade to Middletown.

Today's social studies lesson was about community helpers. The class then drew pictures of themselves as the community helpers they want to be when they grow up: dentist & doctor, storm chaser, farmer, mechanic, police officer, veterinarian.

Tonight all 8th graders and their parents will be announced before the 8th grade game.
Next week, our games on Monday and Tuesday start at 5:30.

A lot of schools have started their biddy ball programs already. Some schools include 5th grade with biddy ball. Andy Koester is going to have a few practices with just 5th graders to prepare for a 5th grade only game. Don’t worry, there will still be a full 5th/6th grade season in January/February/March. This is just randomly thrown in 5th grade games during the season. Practices for 5th grade only will be as follows: November 27 4:00-6:00, December 1 2:00-4:00, and December 6 3:30-5:00 at Zion.
As always, all schedules can be found on the Crusaders Athletics website.
"Fun Math" - roll, count and color.
Working on meeting the Kindergarten math standards for counting, composing & adding numbers.

The start of volleyball is right around the corner. In fact, it’s exactly one week away! Any girl in grades 5-8 from Zion, NHM, or CCS is eligible to participate. Below you will find the December calendar and game schedule for volleyball season. Please note, there will be a mandatory parent meeting at 5:00 in the cafeteria on Wednesday, December 4 that is important for parents to attend. All schedules can also be found at crusadersathletics.weebly.com Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you
