Today for Reading Across America we had two special guest readers.
Read Across America is off to a great start. Students wore pajamas and this afternoon we laid around and read to each other. Tomorrow we will be having guest readers. Please make sure you're reading with your student at home to help reach the class reading goal.
Elementary celebrated all our wonderful readers by playing bingo and eating donuts! Those who turned in their reading logs were entered in a drawing for a chance to win a Sorrento's pizza! Congratulations to our 3 winners and a huge thank you to Sorrento's for donating pizzas for our fabulous kiddos!
3rd grade did an awesome job presenting their Presidential reports.
An egg-citing day in 5th Grade STEM today! The chicks have started to hatch! 21 days is a long time to be patient! We have learned so much about embryology along the way!
Next week we are celebrating Read Across America. We will have the following dress up days.
Tuesday: Pajamas
Wed: Sunglasses
Thurs: silly socks or Dr Seuss
Friday: NHM school sprit
We will also be having a school wide reading challenge. Each student will be challenged to read 1 hour everyday. The first class to reach the goal will win a pizza party. This includes both time at home and in school. K-4th will be having special activities in the afternoon.
Volleyball Weekly Update:
Good luck to both teams in their regional tournament. 7th grade regional starts on Monday at Decatur Unity. They play WLB at 6:00.
8th grade regional will start March 7th. The host school for that is Greenview. 8th grade will play Springfield Our Savior 20 minutes after the first game (first game starts at 10:00). I have attached the full 8th grade regional bracket.
Since practices are really dependent on the outcome of the regional games, Coach Ciaccio will communicate practice times on the Group Me app going forward. Good luck, girls and Go Crusaders!

3rd grades field trip to the Peoria Riverfront Museum. We were able to see exhibits about United States history of the last 250 years, the night sky constellations and a 3d movie about a chipmunk and grasshopper mouse growing up in the wild.
Mrs. Lewison's second grade class had a good time on their field trip!!

Scholastic Bowl Update for this Week:
We have two home matches this week. We play against Zion on Tuesday and Mount Pulaski on Thursday. Both matches will begin at 4pm in the cafeteria. Students can meet in Mr. Brummett's room to wait until all students have been dismissed and the cafeteria is empty/ready to set up. We will play in the cafeteria and encourage families to spectate. As usual, each match should last approximately one hour.
Great job last night to the volleyball girls on their wins! The regular season ends next week and then regionals start March 2 at Decatur Unity. I have attached the 7th grade regional bracket. We play on March 2 against WLB at 6:00 at Decatur Unity. The school address is on the regional bracket. Here is our schedule for next week:
Monday, February 23- game at Delavan 6:00 (no 5th/6th grade game)
Tuesday, February 24- game vs. Greenview @ NHM 5th/6th grade at 5:00, 7th grade at 6:00, and 8th grade after.

Emma Melton
The middle school Student of the Month is Emma Melton. Emma is a hardworking student, brightening the classroom with her positive, can-do attitude and drive to improve. Teachers have stated that she has shown significant improvement both academically and in confidence in her abilities. She carries this onto the court in volleyball and cheerleading as well. She is a true reflection of a quality NH-M Mustang! We are proud to call Emma Melton a New Holland-Middletown Mustang!
Mason Butler
The Elementary Student of the Month is Mason Butler. He is a steady, dependable presence in the classroom, and always has a good attitude. He helps others, works hard, and gets along with everyone. He has made good strides in math, reading, and writing this year. He always has a nice thing to say about his classmates, and he brings the laughs. He is a great example of a NHM Mustang!
Spring Pictures are just around the corner -- Friday, February 27th is the day!
The 5th grade science class has been learning about sound and hearing. Last week they showed their 3-D ear models to the 3rd graders! They also got to let them take a peek at the eggs we have in the incubator for STEM class! Great job!
